Financial planning is a life-long process, which is why I establish life-long relationships – built on mutual respect, confidentiality and trust – with each of my clients. Together with these values, which I hold dear, I follow a six-step financial planning process that involves:
Establishing and defining a professional advisor-client relationship
During our first meeting, I will use our time together to gain a comprehensive understanding of your unique personal and financial situation. I understand that some people may feel intimidated by financial affairs, or fear that they won’t understand all the elements involved in effective planning. My commitment is to ensure that every aspect of your finances is unpacked, analysed and explained in a manner that you can understand because, in this first meeting, we will lay the foundation for all our future interactions. I look forward to getting to know you.
Understanding your goals and gathering personal information
In reality, most of our lifetime goals are linked to money: weddings, travel, houses, vehicles, hobbies, education, retirement and holidays all require careful planning and adequate financing. During our first interaction I aim to find out more about these goals and dreams. By appreciating what is important to you, I will be able to attach an appropriate value to each of your goals, and put plans in place to help you achieve them.
Independently analysing and evaluating your financial status
After our first meeting, I should have a very clear picture of your current financial position. The next step is to analyse the information I’ve collected from you. This involves assessing your earnings, expenditure, current policies and investments, your will, estate costs, tax structures and shortfalls. In doing so, I make use of the most advanced financial planning software and systems that the industry has to offer.
Preparing and presenting a comprehensive financial plan and recommendations
At our second meeting, I will present you with your personal, written and bound financial plan. This plan will address, among other key points, the outcomes of the services you requested. Together, we will work through your plan and I will explain my proposed recommendations in detail.
Implementing recommendations and solutions
If you are happy to proceed with the implementation of the proposed solutions, I will complete the necessary documentation with you. All fees will be fully disclosed to you upfront.
Continually monitoring and reviewing your financial plan
A financial plan is a living document which changes as and when your personal circumstances change. From small lifestyle changes (such as stopping smoking) to larger events (such as the birth of a child), your plan should be updated every time your situation changes. The review and update process need not be a cumbersome one. Although I like to meet at least once a year, I am able to update your plan as and when your circumstances warrant it. Financial planning is a life-long process and I intend being there for you every step of the way.
